Rice
Research Director

POSITION
- Accountable for developing
superior rice hybrids for targeted Asian markets.
- Commercialize hybrids that
meet or surpass performance criteria and business
requirements for all Product Attribute Regions (PAR’s).
- Accountable for evaluating
and deploying technologies that enhance product development
processes and seeking opportunities to leverage potential
traits and technologies from other Crop Genetics Research
and Development projects.
- Serve as the key liaison
between the Rice Product Development Team and the Rice Trait
and Technology Development projects at the Hyderabad DuPont
Knowledge Center (DKC) and other rice technology centers.
- Serve as the Rice Research
representative on the Asian Pacific Rice Product Planning
Team.
- Ensure close coordination
between the Rice Research team and Rice Product Teams and
Country Management Teams in India, Indonesia, Philippines,
Vietnam and China.
- Develop annual and
multi-year research plans with rice product development
coordinator and Rice Research Leadership Team.
- Administer capital and
operating budgets to support the Rice Research Strategic
Plan.
- Review rice research
projects, including objectives, milestones, timelines,
organizational structure, and budgets.
- Keep scientists and crop
vice president current of any budget concerns as they arise.
- Provide professional
growth opportunities and regular feedback on performance to
employees by utilizing monthly reports, Performance
Management and Development plans, and other tools.
- Actively direct and
support staff training and development and encourage staff
recognition at all levels, stressing the importance of a
safe working environment.
- Provide rice industry
leadership and influence by representing Pioneer on external
organizations, teams, and boards.
- Provide management and
scientific leadership, to include consideration of legal,
intellectual property protection, government regulations,
and freedom to operate on projects, while also being
accountable for incorporating industry leading technologies
into research programs.
- Ensure that corporate
policies, Research and Product Development policies,
regulatory requirements and government regulations are
followed when conducting research programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in plant or
biological science.
- Minimum of ten years
experience in managing plant science projects.
- Knowledge of biological or
plant sciences and applications of new technologies in crop
improvement.
- Knowledge of key aspects
of the seed business and strong track record of interaction
across business and research groups. Specific examples of
product development technology successes.
- Demonstrated ability for
ongoing learning throughout one’s career and specific
examples of deploying technologies to agricultural product
development.
- Communication,
interpersonal, and management skills.
