POSITION:
Research
and Development Manager
Position available at East-West Seed Company, at any of the
company’s R & D locations in Asia
The East-West Seed Group,
a fast-growing international vegetable seed company with
subsidiaries in Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, China and
India is seeking a Research & Development Manager.
The R & D Manager will be mainly responsible for developing and
managing the R & D organization and facilities in the country of
assignment in Asia. This position ensures the implementation of
plant breeding / research programs, developing a capable
research organization, managing the facilities of assigned
research stations and effective cooperation will all
stakeholders of research activities. Other assignments such as
technical support, seed production research and others may be
assigned, depending on the needs of the company.
The incumbent will report to the General Manager with functional
reporting lines to the Vice-President of R & D for long-term
research objectives.
Specific Responsibilities

Ensure that local plant
breeding & research programs are effectively implemented in
conjunction with the crop breeding managers.

Ensures the effective /
efficient operation of the company’s R & D farms &
facilities, including labor management, administration and
other support functions.

Ensures the timely preparation
of quality foundation seeds in sufficient quantities for
stock seed multiplication.

Proposes the annual R & D
plan, manpower plan and budget; manages expenses in
accordance with company guidelines

Ensures effective
implementation of people management practices in accordance
with company guidelines, for promoting motivation and
excellence.
Qualifications
- M.Sc. or PhD degree with
satisfactory academic record
- Proven track record in
terms of practical experience
- Globally acceptable
written and spoken English skills
- Effective people skills,
leadership and management skills
- Ability to inter-act and
work with a diverse group of specialists
